Final declaration of nanterre international health conference (12 and 13 of may 2012)

It - Pl - Eng - Fr - Esp - De

In the context of a crisis of capitalism, the health of the population has deteriorated considerably throughout Europe due to the economic, ecological and social crisis, which worsens inequality in all its forms.

The past twelve months have seen an acceleration of the crisis in Europe. A second banking crisis is beginning in Europe; austerity policies jointly conducted in all countries, and by the European Union, are about to lead to a global recession, and in Greece and in other countries to a genuine depression.

In stages, European leaders want to make austerity stronger and more irrevocable through the ratification of the Fiscal Compact and the European Stability Mechanism (ESM).

What is at stake at Rio+20

Eng - Fr - Esp
For Unity and Mobilization of peoples
For Life and Commons, social and environmental Justice
Against Commodification of Nature and « Green economy »

One month before the United Nations Conference Rio+20, peoples of the world don’t see any positive advances in the negotiation process going on within the Official Conference. Indeed, neither the balance of agreements concluded in Rio 92 nor the ways to work on the crises’ causes, have been discussed.  The discussions focus on a set of fake proposals called « Green economy » and on the implementation of a new international environmental governance, that would facilitate their setting-up.

The real structural cause of the crises is capitalism, with its classical and new forms of domination, that concentrates wealth and products social inequalities, unemployment, violence against people, criminalization of those who denounce it. The current production and consummation system – represented and imposed by corporations, financial markets and governments – products and accelerates global warming, hunger and malnutrition, extinction of forests and biological, social and cultural diversity, chemical contamination, drinking water depletion, oceans acidification, land grabbing and commodification of all areas of life in towns and countries.

Act against the global health crisis
Working group "Health, social protection" FST Porto Alegre 2012

The crisis of capitalism, the ecological and food crisis which are linked and the growing social inequalities have aggravated the health situation of people worldwide, this situation leads to various disorders and diseases that reverse progress made up to now.To take just one example, life expectancy in the U.S. (leading world power) is a lasting trend of decrease (from 77.9 years to 77.8 years between 2007 and 2008) a study published December 14, 2010 states that in 1998, a 20 year old male could expect to live another 45 years away from a serious illness (heart disease, cancer or diabetes). This number fell to 43.8 in 2006. A decrease of 1.2 years ... in 8 years.

The crux of the health crisis lies in the fact that simultaneously with the degradation of the health and social situation there are in almost all countries attacks on public health systems by increasing merchandisation which is exacerbating North/South inequalities and social inequalities within each country. The poorest layers of the population and women are the first victims. These reforms appear to be programmed or planned worldwide as they are similar. They fully meet the demands of financial markets, health and pharmaceutical multinationals. One can observe the simultaneous acceleration and attacks against the rights of the population in terms of healthcare in the form of privatization and destruction of non-market social protections.

Paris 2012 : European Conference in defence of public and universal health service and social protection 12th and 13th of May

Fr - Pl - Eng - Esp - De - It - Gr - Pt

Last November in Katowice (Poland), a European conference was held on the defence of public health and social care systems. It was decided call a new conference May 2012 in Paris, to continue our analysis and establish joint mobilizations.
(See attachment : "Second appeal in defence of public health service").

This new conference will be held on the 12th and 13th of May 2012 in Paris.

Everywhere in Europe, the crisis of national debts is used as an excuse to damage public hospital, welfare, patients, and health workers. As a result we see difficulties of access to health care for the poorest, savage closures of  beds, services, and even hospitals, acceleration of hospital privatization, increase taxation of patients, or like in Poland, replacing of employee status with self-employed status or imposing ‘garbage contracts’ outside of labour legislation.
